Top Five Mistakes People Make On Probation And How To Fix Them
- Failure To Pay Fines:
Probation usually has fees associated with it. Make a payment before you go see your probation officer and save the receipt. Even if it is a small payment, something is better than nothing.
- Alcohol Consumption:
Nearly all probation contracts prohibit the use of alcohol. New ETG tests can detect the consumption of alcohol up to 7 days after it was consumed. Don’t use alcohol. If you do have a positive UA don’t admit to the consumption of alcohol.
- Drug Consumption:
Nearly all probation contracts prohibit the use of illegal drugs. Marijuana stays in your system for at least 30 days. If you have a positive UA do not admit to drug use.
- Residing At An Unapproved Residence: (Moving Without Notice To Probation)
Most probation contracts require that you live at an approved address and do not move without at least giving notice to the probation officer and getting approval. Most Probation Officers are fine with you moving just make sure to provide notice and get it approved.
- Failure To Notify Probation Of Interaction With Law Enforcement:
Most probation contracts require that you inform your probation officer within 72 hours of any arrest or interaction with law enforcement. If you have some sort of interaction with law enforcement tell your Probation Officer. If it is a small offense or no offense at all they will usually tell you to make sure you take care of it and report the result to them.
