Two Young Men Seriously Injured in Saline County Semi-Truck Accident
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, on January 14, 2020, Austin Gawith, age 21, and Ethan Schlachter, age 19, both sustained serious injuries resulting from a semi-truck accident. Frederick Murphy, driving a 2015 Freightliner Semi tractor, was traveling southbound on U81 Highway when he attempted to exit west bound I-70. Once realizing he was exiting off the wrong exit, Mr. Murphy attempted to enter back onto U81 Southbound. In doing so, Mr. Murphy collided with Mr. Gawith, driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. As a result of the collision, Mr. Gawith’s automobile was lodged under Mr. Murphy’s trailer and Mr. Schlachter, driving a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, collided into the back of the semi-truck. Both Mr. Gawith and Mr. Schlachter were taken to Salina Regional Health Center.
